I am super excited as DC fashion week creeps up on our Land’O’Grey’s city. Particularly because I get to witness color, drama, and extravaganza from all the DC-tonians; that typically wouldn’t be inclined to ever just be fashionably themselves. Insert side eye for the Chubbies shorts and Sperrys look that has plagued DC for what seems like decades now. It's this pseudo spontaneous outburst of creativity that makes me fall in love with fashion week here in our Nations Capitol year after year!
It gives that stressed out, suit and tie, 9 to 5 person a chance to brighten their life up for a moment. For myself especially, since I still wear a uniform everyday, Go Navy! Now this doesn’t mean I don’t allow myself to have a creative wardrobe; But it’s around this time, that I take all those outfits, some good and some “what were you thinking"? And process them all to curate a look that is statement worthy. I mean let's be real, what queen doesn’t want to flaunt her peacock feathers, and roll out of the house like you just casually threw something on. Though when it comes down to it, any outfit is 40% originality, 60% Confidence, and 100% I Don’t Give a F***! Though I haven’t decided what I will be wearing I typically go for an androgynous look mixing women’s wear and men’s wear. In my book, if you can rock it, then F the M/F labels!
The last two seasons I covered the majority of the designers that are regular features. This year though I definitely want to capture our cities best dressed to show the world that we have some sugar in our Kool-Aid, we ain’t sugar free! We just snap and pivot, uh huh, uh huh! Lol (Love Lizzo!)
